Rapid Air Quality Degradation in Wuhan Affected by Pollution Transport in North China

From the night of November 24, Wuhan was under the control of weak high pressure, the ground was weak northerly wind and the wind was weak. Affected by pollution transmission in the north, PM2.5 hour concentration in urban area increased gradually from 20:00 on the 24th, and reached moderate pollution at 1:00 on the 25th. AQI index in urban area was 205 at 4:00, with severe pollution and PM2.5 as the main pollutant.

At present, the pollution zone is mainly located in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, Eastern Shanxi, Henan, western Shandong, northern Anhui and other places. The air quality is mainly moderate to severe pollution. Some cities are seriously polluted, and the main pollutant is PM2.5. Xiangyang and Jingmen are moderately polluted in the province, while the cities in the north-central part are mildly polluted, with PM2.5 as the primary pollutant.


It is expected that air quality will be moderately polluted on the 25th, and that the main pollutant will be PM2.5 in some periods. It is estimated that the air quality in Wuhan will be moderately polluted on the 26th, with PM2.5 as the primary pollutant.


On November 27, Wuhan will have a weak cold air process. The ground will turn to a northerly wind with weak wind and poor atmospheric diffusion conditions. There may be a weakening and dissipating process from northwest to southeast of the North Pollution Group, and Wuhan may still be affected by transmission. It is estimated that the air quality in Wuhan will be moderately to severely polluted on the 27th, with PM2.5 as the primary pollutant.


Suggestions: During the period of heavy pollution, the elderly, children, patients with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and other susceptible groups should stay indoors as far as possible to avoid outdoor activities.
